Juneau’s Majestic Bald Eagles
Southeast Alaska has one of the highest concentrations of bald eagles in the world, coming to around 10,000 breeding pairs in the region. Juneau offers unrivaled bald eagle viewing that is easily observable from the shorelines, Glacier Highway, and boat rides along the Gastineau Channel. Platforms like Eagle Beach, Auke Bay, and the DIPAC Hatchery provide unforgettable wildlife encounters. Whether you are cruising Juneau in a Jeep or simply walking downtown, witnessing these birds in their natural setting is a must-do experience while here. Adult eagles weigh between 6–15 lbs, with wingspans reaching 6–8 feet. While many eagles roam, a significant number nest near Juneau and remain year-round, feeding on salmon carcasses and waterfowl. Be sure to keep an eye out for these majestic creatures to enjoy all their beauty!
